The gas tax has not been raised since 1993, while inflation has increased by 76.4%. 

Since 1993 the US population has grown by 69 million or 27%, and the number of vehicles registered has grown by 82 million, or 42%. With more people driving cars, and more bridges and roads to maintain we are spending significantly less than we were 25 years ago to maintain our transportation system. The math doesn’t work and our nation’s infrastructure is crumbling while our leaders in Washington sit on the sidelines.
